Vic: Head of police ethical standards department quits

The head of the police ethical standards department has quit amid the growing police
files controversy.

Assistant Commissioner NOEL PERRY who is in charge of investigating police corruption,
including the unauthorised access of police files, tendered his resignation a fortnight
ago.

A report in Melbourne's Herald Sun newspaper says Mr PERRY is leaving for personal reasons.

The paper says details of Mr PERRY'S departure emerged yesterday, with details that
up to 35 officers are being investigated for checking the files of ZDRAVKO MICEVIC, the
man accused of killing former Test cricketer DAVID HOOKES.

Senior sources reportedly told the Herald Sun the 39-year-police veteran is leaving
because of growing differences with Chief Commissioner CHRISTINE NIXON.
