Fed: Remote communities to get broadband links
Remote parts of Australia will benefit from improved broadband services under a $13.8
million package announced today.
Communications Minister DARYL WILLIAMS says a series of projects will be funded under
the government's coordinated infrastructure fund.
A fibre optic cable will run from the Charles Darwin University in Alice Springs through
the MacDonnell Ranges to a number of institutions.
A broadband infrastructure project will be established for 12 communities in the Ngaanyatjarra
Lands of Western Australia.
A microwave broadband will be established through South Australia's Yorke Peninsula,
and 12 towns in far north Queensland will be linked to broadband.
Mr WILLIAMS says it's all part of the government's response to the ESTENS inquiry into
rural and regional telecommunications.
