WA: Western Power fined $17,500 for causing two deaths

WA's government-owned power utility has been fined 17 and a half thousand dollars for
its part in the death of two women killed in a bushfire two years ago.

Western Power pleaded guilty to one charge at Perth's Magistrate Court.

A Coronial inquest earlier this year found Western Power's actions caused the bushfire
that killed two women .. 59-year-old JUDITH WARD and 46-year-old LORRAINE MELIA .. in
the state's south-west on December 27 .. 2003.







Coroner Alistair Hope made eight recommendations in his report and Western Power said
it had acted on all of them.

It also said it would continue to monitor the safety of its network to prevent such
a tragedy happening again.
