Vic: Lack of fire safety gear fuels biggest fire in decade: MFB

A senior fire officer says a lack of fire safety equipment was a factor in a multi-million
dollar fire today in Melbourne.

At least four factories have been destroyed in the blaze .. which started at the Lifestyle
Classics bedding factory in Moorabbin about 8.45 am (AEST) .. and quickly spread.

About 90 Metropolitan Fire Brigade and Country Fire Authority firefighters attended the fire.

MFB Assistant chief fire officer KEITH ADAMSON says the fire's intensity .. strong
north-west winds and a lack of fire safety equipment .. contributed to the damage.

The cause of the blaze is unknown .. but it's being investigated by Arson squad detectives
and MFB investigators.
