TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 4, 1998--Bombardier Inc.(TSE:BBD.A.) (ME:BBD.A.) (TSE:BBD.B.) (ME:BBD.B.) Atlanta-based Atlantic Southeast Airlines (ASA), a Delta Connection carrier, has executed agreements with Bombardier Inc. for the purchase of 27 Canadair Regional Jet Series 200 and Series 700 aircraft. The contract is the first order by the airline for the 70-passenger CRJ Series 700 and an early reorder for the 50-seat CRJ Series 200. The combined order is valued in excess of $575 million U.S. ($893 million Can.) in 1998 dollars.

Under the terms of today's agreement, 12 of the orders are for 70-passenger CRJ Series 700 aircraft while 15 of the aircraft will be the 50-seat CRJ Series 200 model.

Deliveries for ASA's 15 additional Canadair Regional Jet Series 200s will begin in February 2000 and continue at a rate of one a month. Delivery of the 12 CRJ Series 700 aircraft will commence in the fourth quarter of 2001 and be completed in the first quarter of 2003.

"In service, theCanadair Regional Jet has demonstrated its excellent passenger appeal and operational flexibility over the ASA route system," said John W. Beiser, president of ASA. "The speed and range of the 50-seat model, combined with the excellent operating efficiencies of the 70-seat version, ensure that ASA is strategically positioned for growth well into the future," John Beiser said.

Bombardier Aerospace, Regional Aircraft president Robert Gillespie said, "We are very pleased that ASA has become a valued customer for the CRJ Series 700 and has renewed its confidence in the Canadair Regional Jet through this repeat order for the Series 200. The blending of Canadair Regional Jet models within ASA's fleet will provide precisely the flexibility to tailor capacity requirements to peak and off-peak flight times and the ability to meet growing capacity requirements."

ASA was recently named best managed regional airline of the year for 1997 by the prestigious U.S.-based Aviation Week and Space Technology magazine.

ASA has used its Canadair Regional Jet fleet for both growth in new markets and to replace EMB-120 turboprop aircraft in its Atlanta hub.
